I'm all for protecting people's houses - or significant landscapes, but recently, I've been walking, and find a nice cave - and It'll be protected. Or, people's mines will be protected - or silly things like that. I mean, I want to be a nomad, setting camp up, and travelling, maybe stealing some items from people's homes as I go. For me, now, this is practically impossible. Most place I try to set up camp in, that look nice, nice valleys, are protected. And, If I even try to steal something from someone's home, like food, the whole radius of their house is protected. I know we don't want a chaotic grief fest, but this is a little too much IMO. I'll ask the person who protected the cave I want to live in to un-protect it, but I still think there's a hell of a lot of places that are protected that don't need to be. I'm not sure if when you protect an area it goes straight down to bedrock & straight to the height limit, but I was tunneling under-ground and It began to be protected. What?

I entirely understand what you mean, but I've been protecting most areas nearby spawns to avoid griefers and such, because yes, we are already having serious griefers. I'm still thinking of a system to get this working properly, maybe by hand of applications or so, I got no idea, but I will definately deliberate this with Dusty and see what we can change about it. There is loads of unprotected area, but you just need to walk a little further right now. There shouldn't be any protected areas after 1000 blocks from the spawn as far as I know.

On the other hand we don't want people to be tunneling all below the spawn cities and such, or the main cities/hamlets/villages, because we'd like to keep that clean.

Fair enough. It's just, I was on the hills near The Porch, and every block on the mountain was protected. As was every block for a huge stretch behind Dustwood, or whatever It is called.

I'll be granting permissions to people who'd like to build stuff at certain areas (under certain circumstances ofcourse) soon. However you can build freely beyond those protected areas as far as I know.
